As has been the case for months now, I’m moments away from completing a total redux of A Brief History of Time.  This has meant redrawing, rescanning and recolouring almost everything in the entire book.  I think I have one page left to do.  I think I’ve had one page left to do since October.  But you know how it is, that last 5 pounds is the hardest to lose, plus all the other bullshit that life is always distracting me with.

This post is to remind me for the hundredth time that I’m working on this project and so you can see how it looks.  The bad news is that I will never ever post this do-over onto itwasmeteors, but the good news is that I think it has a shadow of a shot at being printed someday.

Yeah, I guess I made this picture months ago and never really posted it, so here it is.   I spend a lot of time thinking about sustainable energy, especially when it comes to travel or rather, I guess, self-sustaining energy, or self-propelled travel.

If I can come up with a good enough invention then I won’t even have to really invent it, just patent it and wait for the auto industry giants to buy up my patent, not so they can make the damn thing, but just so they can quash it like they did with all those designs for the electric car and so on, buying up the right to not have it made.

Then I could live high off the hog for that last decade or two of this absolute human comfort of ours before the bottom dropped out of society and everything went to flames and twisted metal and chaos and as I watched it all go to hell I’d know that I did my own small part to push it all over the edge, or that I didn’t do my part to grab hold and pull back and keep it from falling, that the time to heave against the line had come and gone and I’d said “no thanks”.  And I’d be ashamed with myself for those years, knowing that the hell of our everyday lives was one I’d somehow chosen.

But then maybe way down the road, after everything had ended and there was nothing but static on every channel and all the streets had cracked and broken into dirt and all the windows had been smashed back down into sand, maybe then I could pull out those old blueprints and try my best to remember how to read them and wonder if we were finally ready for this kind of thing, if this was something we could finally actually use.

And yeah, this picture is about the days that come after that day.  Enjoy.

Hello Friends,

Here’s a picture I did just for some kicks, just to get back the feel of using india ink and quills.  This one goes out to Catherine Mourot, whose book I’ve been dawdling on but am now done, and who gets a kick out of delusions of mousey grandeur.

Tomorrow is the 10th of December, the day I get that first twinge of panic, soft and only slightly nagging at first, that I haven’t done a single stupid little thing to prepare for Christmas.  I’ll get another on the 15th and another on the 20th, each one stronger and more urgent than the last, and come the 24th I’ll be running wild-eyed and frantic and crazy through the orillia square mall, stumbling and weeping and grabbing at the worst gifts imaginable like some tired old cliche out of a female comic’s holiday stand-up routine.  It’s hellish, irresponsible and totally preventable, but god dammit, it’s a tradition.

And holiday traditions are important.

By now most people have caught wind of London’s “Urban Fox”, the garbage-rifling, cat-eating scourge of Jolly Olde England.

A generation later, their privileged offspring have ingratiated and integrated themselves into the city’s bustling night life, successfully imitating the dress codes and social cues of the times.

One of the great evolutionary leaps of the animal kingdom, the so-called “Urbane Fox” now thrives on cocktail wieners, witty banter and strong cider.

Sadly, these elegant creatures are already listed amongst London’s most endangered wildlife, their numbers swiftly and steadily decreasing as a result of fisticuffs and drunk driving.

I hope you’re enjoying the stupid poem that I’m illustrating right now.  If you haven’t been paying attention then you should start from the beginning, here

I put some new prints up in the shoppe, some stuff that’s only been available at book shows and that sort of thing. Until Now.  I thought you might like a kick at the cat, too.

I guess that’s it for now.  Just wanted to say hey.

Dan
